Heat Treatment
Proper heat treatment is critical to achieving required mechanical properties, dimensional stability, and service performance. Alabama Metallurgical Consulting provides independent evaluation of heat treatment processes focused on improving consistency, performance, and compliance.
Expertise includes standard heat treatment practices such as annealing, normalizing, quench-and-temper, stress relieving, and age hardening, across ferrous and non-ferrous materials including carbon and low-alloy steels, stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, aluminum, titanium, and copper alloys.
Experience includes prior work with both commercial and in-house heat treating operations.
Surface modification processes such as carburizing, nitriding, and induction heating are also evaluated, including assessment of case depth, hardness profiles, and microstructural condition.
Investigations may include review of heat treatment procedures, furnace records and certifications, metallographic examination, hardness testing, and correlation of processing parameters with material condition or service performance.
Services include heat treatment troubleshooting, auditing of commercial heat treat suppliers, and independent review of practices to support quality assurance, risk mitigation, and compliance with applicable specifications and industry standards.
